The LA Marathon is next weekend! I am going to run it with Students Run LA for the fourth time. I am very excited because it is a new course that goes through the "nice" parts of LA, starting from the Dodger Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier. There was an article about the new, hyped course on the front page of the Daily News yesterday. Supposedly every mile is some kind of tourist attraction like hollywood and highland's Chinese Theatre and walk of fame. I'm glad this year we wont have to be stuck in downtown LA on mile 22, instead we will be getting closer and closer to beautiful Santa Monica! =P

The Bloom Box has been released by Bloom Energy. It is a 700 thousand dollar fuel cell device that is reportedly twice as efficient as natural gas power transmitted through the grid. The box works by powering a whole bunch of thin packaged fuel cells. Each cell is created from sand material and combines oxygen and fuel for a chemical reaction to make energy. Big companies are looking in to test them and possibly use them for future energy supply.

The digital recreated versions will be cheaper than the textbook itself.

Facebook now lets people memorialize facebook pages for people who have died. It will require the proof of being related to the deceased person and will aslo freeze the account so no one can reply back from the dead person page.

Barnes and Nobles announces its new e-reader. Its called Nook and is 260 dollar. There is a new lending technology which allows users to lend purchased books to friends for 14 days. It will be

able to be shared on PCs, other Nooks or iPhones or Blackberrys.
Verizon is introducing its new iphonekiller Droid. It has touch screen capability, slide out querty keyboard, and is pretty much the same size as the iphone 3gs.

Google will soon be launching a music service with Lala and iLike. It is not known for sure if it will be streaming, downloadable, or both. Will be official on Wednesday of next week.
Mac is introducing new features on familiar products such as a wider screen and hd inpu on the Mac computer. It will now be able to be used as a HD TV. the new Macbook will have a new unibody design. And also they will be launching the new Magic Mouse for 69 dollars. It will have a touch and sliding surface.
Twitter celebrates its 5 billionth tweet. The message was "Oh lord."

Oct. #7: Netflix on PS3, Palm Pixi, Paranormal Activity

PS3 now has a Netflix service with the purchase of its 8.99 per month plan. Users will be able to stream their loved shows and movies. Eventually the application wont require a disk.
Palm will be releasing the new Palm Pixi on Nov. 15. It will cost 99 dollars with a contract for sprint. The new phone will have a 2.6 multi-touch screen and full quirty keyboard.
Paranormal Acitivty topped on the charts this week beating its competitor Saw by 8 million. Paramount might be up for a sequal, if so then it will definitely become a franchise.

Microsoft has recovered most of the lost sidekick data.
Amazon is offering a new shipping option! Same day delivery is only about 6 bucks as long as the product is ordered before the cut off time.
Twitter is now making wine. They are teaming up with a San Franscisco wine team to make and sell their own wine. They are giving their profits to Room to Read, a charity to help give children the availabilty to literature.

New iphone 3gs soon to be shipped are now unhackable. Users will now be unable to hack certain apps and programs to use on the device.
Wifi Direct is a new connection that allows devices like the Iphone, cellphones, and game systems to connect with each other without the use of a wireless network. This new direct connection will be able to be me at up to a distnace of 300 ft.
Back in Feburary of 2008, Poloroid announced that they would stop the productions of their cameras but just reanounced they would start selling them again after much nostalgia from users.
Walmart is now offering super cheap wireless plans. The plans include unlimitied everything from internet to texting to calling all for 45 dollars a month without a contract. The phones cost about 100 dollars and are quite ugly.

It is now official that Robert Downey Jr will be playing Iron Man in Iron Man 2 and the new Avengers movie. Also John Favra will being not only directing the sequel but also taking on the role of executive produce for the Avengers film.
Sony profits have gone down 72%. Many would have thought this to be unreasonable because of the popular sale of their TV's and video game systems, but they rely on their 80% of earnings from other countries.
Xbox now has a new Netflix app where users can subscribe their HD content onto the game system and share.
PC users who are not fond of the "Im a PC" commercial ads can now log onto the PC site and create their own version of the video. From there, PC will pick their favorites and actually use them for their next commercial ad.

Vince Surf (a founding father of the internet and Vice president of google) has been working with NASA to create a little something called Interplanetary Internet. This project will allow astronauts to communicate better when in space. It will be tested sometime in 2009 at Surf, the international space station.
Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo has come together to find a way to do business internationally in countries where computer users do not have the right of free speech.

Youtube will start streaming full length shows, including three commercials aired throught the content. They are making this new feature because of the demand from users, and is starting with shows from CBS.
Listening to music on your MP3s may cause permanent hearing loss! Listening it at high volume is similar to the amount a sound a plane makes when taking off.
Conservationist in Kenya has created a new way to prevent endangered elephants from invading nearby farms. To do this they fitted the elephants with a cellphone with its sim card attached to a nifty collar. This method has already proved to work!

There will soon be RockBand for Iphones and Ipods!! With multiplayer compatibility, its definitley goin to be a hit. Nothing is final but theres a general idea of how its going to work .
NASA is going to explode part of the moon!!! Recently they found water on the moon, and now they are going to blast a section to try to find more water! NASA will have a live viewing tomorrow at 7 am. Or, you can view it on a telelscope!

Yesterday in New Media class we all watched the Apple's conference of their Fall line up. The two biggest things, I thought, were the new and improved Itunes 9 and the NEW IPOD NANO THAT TAKES VIDEO!!!!

Itunes 9 new design is simple and so much easier to search through with a one-click navigation.
It also now includes Itunes LP where you can experience the band or artist like never before with photos and videos, lyrics and albums lists. There is also now a Home-Sharing feature where you can acquire the libraries from the other computers in you household. From there you can drag-and-drop whichever songs or albums directly onto your own library. And now for Ipod Touch and Iphone users, there is an App organizer that is very simple to use.

Along with Itunes 9, Apple has introduced that Ipod Nano that now shoots video! With a small camera in the bottom corner and speakers, we now have a musicplayer and video camera all in one. It still has its ultra-slim design, and now a bigger screen. The only question is "Why shoot video, but not take pictures?" I guess they are just saving it for the next big thing.

Last nights VMA 2009 was filled with great memoric performances such Janet's Tribute to Michael Jackson, but the best have to have been when Taylor Swift won the award for Best Music Video.

Kanye West decided to rudely interrupt by jumping onto the stage and snatches the mike away from the teen pop star. He says that Beyonce had amazing and the best music videos this year. The camera cuts to Beyonce where her jaw is dropped open with shock.

Honestly, this kind of behaviour is no suprise coming from Kanye. Im surprised he didnt take the award from her and gave it to Beyonce herself.

Google Chrome on Sony, Fantastic Four Continues, And Rockband Bar Night

Google Chrome will now be the default browser for all Sony products. They hope to raise their percentage to compete with Microsofts Internet Explorer.

Disney is continuing the Fantistif Four Franchise and moves. They hired a new writer and producer, Akeeva Goldsman. He is known for is Batman and Robin remake. The cast is still unknown.

Rockband will now be available in bars, just like karaoke! They have set up the entire stage to be able to have an entire band go up at a time.
